![]() ![]() Not one soul has braved The Outlands outside the Solen barrier. Many colonies have been founded out there. "Nowhere" is a term used to describe the furthest reaches from Gaia any dare to explore. Most fear the wilds more than the lower zones. Most outings into the wilderness outside cities are done in large heavily-armed groups. The lowest levels of Imkind cities can be dangerous places indeed. ![]() "Ghouls" as they are dubbed are one example of flesh eating, impossibly stubborn and persistent, sub-Imkind creatures who prey on anyone they can swarm and devour. Some people and creatures can be tainted by Solen radiation poisoning and become monstrous in every regard. Imkind cities tend to be crowded with the wealthiest living at the top and the "Zeroes" crowded into the discarded lower zones. ![]() Huge space stations are popular as are large starships. This has forced the large populations of medically perfected Imkind to gather in large 4 mile high cities on Gaia and similar construction on other settled worlds. Scientists have a method of measuring the Solen radiation levels of an area as a sort of translator to what Gaia will allow to be settled or not most of the time these areas are coastal. Every method available from animals, to plant growth, to volcanic eruptions will forcefully remove you from that protected zone. If you try and settle somewhere Gaia does not want you, there is no stopping the wrath of nature. The further away you get from Gaia, the larger the amount of land can be settled on a planet but the best Imkind has found is maybe 50%. Gaia herself seems to live and only allows a small percentage of her to be settled. Blasters of energy, some larger shields for starships, food processing and growth, and many other wondrous applications and technologies now foster Imkind. Ruled by The Chairman of the Commonwealth, the Board of Czars, and the Corporate Council, a 500 member group of Senators appointed by one of the great corporations of The Commonwealth.īiological technology enhanced by SFE is common, as is FTL travel within the Solen Barrier extending some (distance not determined yet) light years from Gaia. Of course the corporations swept in to "foster" this growing technology.Ĭurrently Gaia is the center of The Commonwealth, a corporate controlled empire spanning hundreds of systems, outposts, space stations, and colonies. This eventually led to physics-bending technology facilitated by the Solen Fusion Engineering (SFE) process. This energy could be manipulated by a small percentage of the population, and only to infuse certain patterns of their will into accommodating materials. Within 200 years of First Colony, Imkind discovered the energy that Gaia emanated - Solen. Those corporate leaders of the time appreciated the pioneering spirit and marketing focus of the Terrans and Terran culture came to dominate this new people. The various corporations of the tribes had put forth an enormous amount of resources and stood as the de-facto leaders of their respective peoples. ![]() Soon one of the tribes, the Terrans, came to dominate the corporate culture of First Colony on Gaia. These seven "tribes" all managed to build an Ark and all miraculously made it to Gaia untouched. The Seven Messiahs warned of The Sundering, a great cataclysm that would destroy anything not close enough to the protective energy of Gaia herself. Of the hundreds of Genesis Worlds only seven heeded the warnings and prophecies of their Messiah. Our story takes place on a planet called Gaia where the seven "tribes" of Imkind (humanity) founded a new civilization after The Great Exodus from the Genesis Worlds. I was hoping to get a general feeling from GURPS fans on what you thought of it at first glance. I'll share some of what I have at a top level so far it ended up being long. I have been feverishly penning away at a setting I call In The Shadows of Gaia a dark futuristic setting of magic infused technology.
